Noriko UedaBass

Bassist/composer/arranger Noriko Ueda is originally from Hyogo, Japan. After she graduated from the Berklee College of Music as a Jazz Composition major in 1997 Noriko relocated to Brooklyn, NY.

Noriko is the winner of the 2002 BMI Foundation / Charlie Parker Jazz composition prize. Other career highlights include several performances at the Blue Note in New York as leader of the Noriko Ueda Trio, Quartet, and the Noriko Ueda Jazz Orchestra. She has also been a featured artist at the Blue Note. (2002 – 2017)

She has toured Japan as part of the Ted Rosenthal Trio for eleven consecutive years (2006 – 2017). The trio’s CD Out of this World reached #1 on the national jazz radio charts. (2011) In 2017 Noriko toured Europe with “Woman to Woman,” led by Renee Rosnes.

As a member of Sherrie Maricle & The DIVA Jazz Orchestra and Five Play for over fifteen years, Noriko has performed and arranged charts for many projects including the collaboration with Johnny Mandel (2010) and the soundtrack for Macy’s July 4th fireworks event, broadcast on CBS, that included a big band piece she arranged (2014).

Noriko’s first album as a leader, the trio recording DEBUT, was released in 2015 on Terashima Records.
